Responsibilities

Job Purpose

The Intern – Commodities will support the Commercial Hedging team through supervised market research, report preparation, Excel modelling and process improvement activities. The role is designed to give a final-year student practical exposure to commercial market activity while supporting the team with clearly scoped, low-risk deliverables.

 

General Duties

The intern will work under supervision at all times and will not have authority to execute trades, provide financial product advice, approve external client communications or make decisions on client accounts.

  • Assist with market research, data collation and preparation of draft market updates or research notes.
  • Build, maintain or improve Excel models and reporting templates to support day-to-day Commercial Hedging
  • Support statement checks, margin call preparation and observation of trade booking processes under appropriate supervision, where relevant.
  • Prepare materials for internal review, including summaries, charts, reconciliations and process notes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all access, conduct and supervision requirements.

Expected Outcomes and Final Deliverable

By the end of the program, the intern should be able to:

  • explain the basics of StoneX commercial market activity;
  • prepare a simple market update using approved data sources; and
  • present a Commercial Market Insight and Process Improvement Pack, including one market research report, one Excel model or reporting template and a short presentation of findings.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

  • Final-year student in economics, finance, commerce, agribusiness, mathematics, computer science or another quantitative discipline.
  • Strong Excel capability and confidence working with numerical information.
  • Interest in commercial markets, commodities, client service and financial market operations.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills and professional maturity.
  • Coding or data automation experience is desirable but not essential.
