Responsibilities

Job Purpose

The Intern – Core Trading will support the Core Trading team through supervised market observation, research collation, market recap preparation and desk-support projects. The role is designed to introduce a final-year student to trading desk concepts, market drivers, risk awareness and disciplined communication in a controlled environment.

 

General Duties

The intern will work under supervision at all times and will not have authority to execute trades, provide financial product advice, approve external client communications or make decisions on client accounts.

  • Observe trading desk activity and develop an introductory understanding of relevant markets, pricing, spreads, risk, margins and liquidity.
  • Prepare daily or weekly market-event watchlists, research summaries and end-of-day recap materials.
  • Support supervised desk projects such as template improvements, market monitoring frameworks or process documentation.
  • Develop a Trading Market Thesis or Desk Efficiency Project for final presentation.
  • Comply with all supervision, confidentiality and regulatory restrictions, including no trading, dealing or regulated activity.

Expected Outcomes and Final Deliverable

By the end of the program, the intern should be able to:

  • explain Core Trading desk concepts at an introductory level;
  • prepare market recaps and research summaries;
  • understand why risk, margin, liquidity and spreads matter; and
  • present either a Trading Market Thesis or Desk Efficiency Project to Trading leadership.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

  • Final-year student in finance, mathematics, accounting, economics, STEM, computer science or another quantitative discipline.
  • Strong numeracy, market curiosity and interest in trading, pricing and risk concepts.
  • Ability to work accurately under time pressure and communicate observations clearly.
  • Strong Excel skills; coding, data analysis or dashboard experience is a strong advantage.
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality awareness and willingness to learn in a controlled trading environment.
