StoneX Financial Ltd, a subsidiary of StoneX Inc, is a payment services firm which specialises in transferring funds to the developing world. It provides customized foreign exchange and treasury services to more than 500 customers, including international aid and development organizations, UN agencies, government agencies, NGOs, religious entities, multinational corporations, and financial institutions.

Responsibilities

As an Sanctions Screening - Team Leader, you will be expected to lead a high-performing team with a strong focus on people management, performance monitoring, quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and effective stakeholder engagement. In addition, you will provide critical support to the Deputy Manager/Manager in overseeing operations and driving process improvements.

This role requires a highly motivated, people-oriented leader who can manage performance, ensure quality and compliance, and foster strong relationships across the organization. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining operational excellence and driving continuous improvement, while also supporting senior management in strategic initiatives and operational oversight.

The key expectations for candidates in this role include:

  1. People & Performance Management:
  • Lead a team-oriented culture: Inspire, mentor, and manage a team of sanctions screening and transaction monitoring analysts \ Senior Analysts.
  • Drive team performance: Actively monitor individual and team performance, ensuring KPIs and service levels are consistently met.
  • Support underperformers: Provide consistent coaching who require additional support and help them achieve their potential.
  • Foster team cohesion: Promote collaboration, conflict resolution, and open communication to maintain a positive work environment. Ensure team members feel valued, supported, and motivated to perform at their best.
  • Conduct year-end appraisals: Assist/support the Deputy Manager/Manager in the year-end performance review process, providing fair and transparent employee ratings based on performance, contributions, and growth throughout the year. Work with the management team to deliver feedback and support employee career development through the appraisal process.
  1. Stakeholder Management:
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders: Serve as the primary liaison between the team and various internal and external stakeholders, including Operations, Client Services, and Production services \ IT teams. Build strong working relationships to ensure smooth interdepartmental coordination.
  • Communicate effectively: Provide regular updates to the Deputy Manager\ Manager on team performance, key challenges, and areas of improvement. Keep stakeholders informed of process changes, system upgrades, and compliance-related developments.
  • Manage escalations: Handle escalations from team members or other departments, resolving issues related to sanctions screening or transaction monitoring quickly and effectively.
  • Represent the team: Participate in stakeholder meetings, offering insights into operational challenges and collaborating to align the team’s workflow with broader business objectives.
  1. Assisting Deputy Manager/Manager:
  • Operational support: Assist the Deputy Manager/Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring the team meets its performance goals and regulatory obligations. Step in as needed to manage the team or resolve critical issues.
  • Reporting & analytics: Provide detailed reports on team performance, quality metrics, and operational bottlenecks. Collaborate with the Deputy Manager/Manager in analyzing data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Process alignment: Work closely with leadership to ensure that team objectives align with organizational goals and regulatory changes. Implement managerial directives, track progress, and report results.
  • Backup leadership: Act as a deputy during the absence of the Deputy Manager/Manager, ensuring operational continuity and addressing any team or process-related challenges that arise.
  1. Process Improvement & Innovation:
  • Continuous optimization: Lead process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing team productivity, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness. Implement innovative solutions, such as workflow automation, to streamline sanctions screening and transaction monitoring tasks.
  • Promote a culture of innovation: Encourage team members to identify areas of improvement within the sanctions and transaction monitoring processes. Support their initiatives and help implement effective solutions that add value.
  1. Resource & Queue Management:
  • Efficient task allocation: Ensure fair distribution of tasks among team members, considering individual strengths and development areas. Monitor task queues and workflow to ensure timely and effective task completion.
  • Manage team resources: Anticipate resource requirements and develop contingency plans to ensure the team can maintain operational continuity during peak periods or when key team members are unavailable.
  • Strategic planning: Assist in preparing shift schedules and managing workload across sanctions screening and transaction monitoring processes to ensure consistent coverage and smooth operations.
  1. Training and Development:
  • Develop and deliver training programs for new and existing team members.
  • Keep the team updated on changes in regulations and best practices.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in leading teams within sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, or a related compliance function.
  • Proficiency in using Sanctions Screening, and Transaction Monitoring tools, and Backoffice systems.
  • Strong expertise in people management, with a demonstrated ability to drive high performance, develop talent, and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • In-depth experience with quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) methodologies to ensure accurate and compliant outcomes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and resolve escalations.
  • Experience assisting in managerial tasks, including resource planning, performance reporting, and operational oversight.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.

 Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, Law, or other appropriate discipline.
  • Professional Compliance Qualification – desirable.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Additional Requirements

  • Must be available and flexible to work in different shift schedules, including late night shifts (US Timing) and early morning shifts (Asia Pacific Timings) on a rotational basis according to business needs.
  • Willingness to work on holidays, as required
