Responsibilities

 

Position puporse:

 
The EMEA Senior Carbon Trader will work with the global carbon team to grow the carbon desk and provide access to markets to clients in both compliance and voluntary markets by offering trading, consulting and risk management services to clients throughout EMEA.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute trades on European carbon markets, including EUAs, UKAs and other environmental products such as voluntary carbon, GOs and iRECs.
  • Execute OTC, futures, and options transactions that support commodity risk management strategies in both compliance and voluntary markets.
  • Work with the Head of Carbon and trading desk to implement the most optimal trading strategies on carbon assets.
  • Book trades in trading control systems and send trade confirmations in a timely manner
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including customers, brokers, traders, and other relevant market players
  • Perform detailed analysis of supply and demand dynamics, auction outcomes, and policy impacts on EUA and UKA prices. Stay updated on carbon regulations and policy changes, ensuring compliance and leveraging regulatory developments for strategic advantage.
  • Coordinate portfolio needs for carbon allowances with trading counter-parties in order to align trading strategies. Implement robust risk management practices specific to the volatility and regulatory nature of the EU ETS markets.
  • Generate new business revenue through identifying new opportunities, client on-boarding and internal cross-selling
  • Monitors trading activities and exposures to ensure they are within approved policies and limits
  • Analyse individual client operations to determine market exposure, price sensitivity and financial risks in alignment with market trends and regulatory changes
  • Prepare end-of-day price summary reports and weekly/monthly commentary reports as part of StoneX Market Intelligence platform
  • Understand the risks and controls of the business to detect and prevent these.

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

To land this role you will need:

 

  • Extensive experience in commodities trading, OTC and derivatives’ instruments
  • Proven track record  in EU ETS carbon trading and execution
  • In depth understanding of the regulatory frameworks behind compliance markets (EU and UK at a minimum – CA is a strong plus), including market mechanisms and fundamental drivers.
  • Robust understanding of the key regulated entities under both EU ETS and UK ETS accross Europe.
  • Must demonstrate a quantitative/analytical approach to commodity markets and the use of multiple risk management alternatives
  • Ability to exercise autonomous judgment in assessing opportunities and risk
  • Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills
  • Original and independent thinking is a must to identify and respond to customer needs through the structuring of effective solutions.
  • Thorough and highly accurate job execution skills.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Proficient computer skills – especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Must be authorized to work in the EU for any employer
  • Language skills: Fluent in English and German is mandatory  
  • Willing and able to travel

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Finance, Engineering, or related fields
  • Master’s degree in related fields is preferred, but not required
